FAQ

A Structural Engineers job is to provide advice and the necessary drawings & calculations in order to satisfy the Building Regulations and relevant Codes of Practice.

A Structural Engineer will design building projects to ensure it is safe, strong and buildable to support all known forces applied to it.

Not always – If you have architectural plans in place our Structural Engineer can use these to make their calculations from the desk top saving you money from a site visit.

Although, if you don’t have any plans in place our Engineer will need to visit the site in order to assess the structural alterations and prove the integrity of both the alterations and the entire building by calculations as necessary.

We predominantly cover London inside the M25 and the surrounding areas, the North West and Manchester. For our regular clients we also travel throughout mainland UK.

If you are looking to purchase a property it is recommended to have a structural report. This should be done prior to exchange of contracts.

This report will include any significant building defects such as rising damp, movement in the walls (cracks) and subsidence etc.

The survey will give you an in depth report of the condition of the property allowing you to make an informed decision regarding your purchase.

You may need a structural engineer when you carry out a renovation of your property or create extra space by extension, roof or basement.

If you want to make changes that could affect the stability of your property your Structural Engineer will help identify these design changes which will make the build easier, more economical and most importantly make it safe.

Structural engineers and Architects both design building projects, Structural Engineers consider the strength, durability and safety when designing a building. Whereas Architects focus more on the appearance and use of the building. We work closely with Architects turning their vision into reality.

Generally for typical smaller domestic extensions and renovations where the plans are already in place we could have your calculations etc back to you within 48 hours without a site visit.

This can vary widely depending on the size of your projects. Please get in touch and one of our friendly team will be happy to advise you on what is involved.
